Description: Clatsop Indian women at Seaside, Oregon are Jennie Michelle Merchino and De-Oso, wife of Chief Katana. Handwritten on reverse: "Standing: Jennie Watatcum or Jennie Maechell. Indian name Jennie S__um of the Clatsop tribe. Married to a half breed indian and later to a French Canadian named Machell. She is known as the last of the Clatsops. Seated: Mrs. Katata is of the Nestucka tribe Indian name Da-o-sa. She was the widow of Indian chief Katata and the last of his 17 wives" [source unkown].
