Micki Towell 1940-2010
SMHS was blessed the past eight years in having Micki Towell as one
of our dedicated workers. Her passing on January 7, 2010 was met with
sorrow.
When
Micki came to Seaside one of the first places she visited was the
museum where she volunteered to be a docent. She served on the
Board of Directors for seven years and as President for two years.
As a former librarian, she was interested in the library and took on
the position of librarian for the museum. But, she did much more. She
researched and developed school traveling kits that are available for
teachers to take into their classrooms. She, along with her husband
Jim, were very involved with the "Salt Makers Return".
Each morning they would bring all the materials for the Contextual
Greeters tent and then in the evening pick them up for security and
bring them back the next morning. They were also involved with setting
up, taking down and any other job that needed to be done during the
"Salt Makers Return" program. She worked on the 4th of July auction
every year and the Gingerbread Tea. She helped organize the new archive
room and trained the staff and volunteers. I know she did more things
that I have forgotten or didn’t even know about, because all
of her volunteering was done in a very humble and unassuming way.
We will miss her, but, she had fulfilled her dream of being with her
grandchildren when she moved to Hood River last fall.
